Women’s March on the California State Capitol

23 January 2017

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Residents of the Sacramento Valley took part in the Women’s March on Saturday, the largest protest on record in the the United States. It is estimated that between three and five million people took part in more than 673 marches across the world, about 20,000 of those protesters were in Sacramento.

The march was organized in response to rhetoric from President Trump on the campaign trail. The main focus of the march was women’s rights, but a number of other topics were addressed as well, including immigration, health care, and LGBTQ rights.

Across the country, there were seas of knitted pink “pussy” hats. They became the symbol of the march in response to then-candidate Trump bragging to Billy Bush of Access Hollywood about sexually assaulting women, he said “Grab them by the pussy, you can do anything.” Many signs at the march read variations of “This pussy grabs back.”
