March for Our Lives
24 March 2018
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – It was the students’ turn to take to the streets of the U.S. on Saturday to protest an issue that has affected their lives. The March for Our Lives protest was organized by students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida, where a school shooter took the lives of 17 people (14 students and 3 staff members) on February 14, 2018.
Organizers used the hashtag #NeverAgain to spread word of the event and gear young people up to vote for gun control legislation when elections begin.
On Saturday, protests took place in over 800 cities around the world, including in the San Francisco Bay Area. Thousands of protestors took part in eight different protests around the Bay Area. I attended the largest protest in downtown San Francisco.
The March for Our Lives website states their mission:
“Not one more. We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of an assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives.”
