Vice Chancellor Habeck Visits Söder to Discuss Green Energy
20 January 2022
MUNICH, Germany – German Vice Chancellor and Minister for Economy and Climate Protection Robert Habeck visited the Bavarian Minister President Markus Söder in the Bavarian State Chancellery in Munich on January 20. Habeck is the leader of the Green Party (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) and has been spearheading sweeping energy reforms in Germany, specifically he is hoping to expand wind energy in the country.
Environmental activists, joined by Chairman of Bund Naturschutz Richard Mergner, met the two figures outside of the Chancellery in a show of support for expanding green energy initiatives and abandoning the 10H rule, which mandates that the distance between a wind turbine and houses has to be 10 times the height of the turbine. The rule has essentially brought the construction of new wind turbines in Bavaria to a complete halt. Habeck is hoping to make progress in overturning the rule in his meeting with Söder.
